David Ewbank, oldest child of Lancelotte and Mary Blasdale Ewbank, was b. in Dearborn Co, Ind Sept 26, 1822. While a boy he came to Parke Co, Ind with his parents. Here he gerw to manhood and was marr. to Margariette Myers. To this union were b. 4 children: two of whom d. in infancy. The other two (deceased now) were Rachel, wife of James Hybarger and ELizabeth, w/o Edward Bales. His first wife died while living near the old Ewbank homestead. He was again marr. to Evelyn Pike Bryant and then moved to a place near Sylvania. To his second union were b. 9 ch; 5 girls and 4 boys, two of the girls having preceded him to the other world. His second wife was called to her eternal home about the time the family was all grown. Two of the ch. are living in Indiana, Edgar of Attica and Bertha of Indianapolis. The other 5 are as follows: Minnie of Ark; Amanda of Ill; Fred of Mo; Elmer of Montagna and Ernest of Washington. Thus being left Uncle David made his home among the children and it was while he was at the home of his daughter, Bertha in Indianapolis that he was suddenly stricken with tonsilitis, death coming as a gentle relief Jan 17, 1911 at the age of 88 years 3 months and 21 days. Besides his children and several grandchildren he leaves one sister, Mrs. WR Ratcliff of Kingman one brother, Jonathan of Emporia KS and 3 half-bros, Thomas of Russellville; Mortin of Wheatland IN and George of OK. It was during the life of his second wife that he become converted and united with the UB Church at Fairview. He lived a consistant Christian life being an earnest worker at all time, for the betterment of the community with no illwords for anyone. And if at times his lot seemed hard he was never heard to grumble and there is no doubt when the angel came Uncle David was glad to hear it call. -- kbz

-- The body of David Ewbank from Indianapolis, where he died Tuesday at the home of his daughter at the ripe old age of 88 years. His last ailment was tonsilitis a severe attack of which came upon him last Saturday. Deceased was the father of 13 children, 4 of whom were born to his firs tunino and 9 to his second marriage. Nine of these survive him, but only two were present at the funeral, the others being located in different states. Funeral services were conducted yesterday from the UB Church by Rev. Cox afterwhich the reamins were taken to West Union for burial. -- kbz
